  • Allergy<\/strong> is a disproportionate reaction of the immune system: the body develops inflammation to defend itself against an element of its environment that it mistakenly identifies as an aggressor when it is not.<\/li>
  • The allergen<\/strong> is that part of the environment that triggers the reaction.<\/li>
  • Allergic horses<\/strong> have a predisposition (we will see this in a future article) and develop a defensive reaction that turns against themselves.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    What are the different allergens?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

    • les respiratory allergens <\/b>that enter the body through the respiratory tract: it is airborne dust (see below).<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul>

      Airborne allergens are transported by:<\/p>

        • the wind, the air displaced by the movements, the spray,<\/li>
        • different media: larger dust, animals, fabrics ...<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>

          • and food allergens<\/b>, which are swallowed: these are the food. Some more than others: <\/span><\/span><\/p>

              • we will see that the method of cultivation matters a lot,<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

              • corn, soybeans, ...<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li>

              • but also contact allergens\u00a0<\/b>: penetration is through the skin. This happens with certain stinging plants (hops, clematis, hogweed, etc.),<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

              • as well as injected allergens<\/b> : <\/span><\/span><\/p>

                • venoms from insects, such as horseflies or Culicoid midges responsible for Recurrent Equine Summer Dermatitis,<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

                • drug allergies causing anaphylactic shock.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

                  What are the symptoms ?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
                  \n\t\t\t\t
                  \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

                  • the horse coughs and may have breathing difficulties up to respiratory distress,<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

                  • he snorts to free his nostrils,<\/span><\/span><\/li>

                  • his eyes flow,<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

                  • swelling and swelling form on the skin,<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li>

                  • they are itchy and scratchy and scratchy, with some areas more at risk than others.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

                    Dust, varies in size and composition. It is a mixture of:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>

                    • dried mud,<\/li>
                    • particles from soil erosion, plowing,<\/li>
                    • excrement (including dung),<\/li>
                    • artificial and natural fibers,<\/span><\/li>
                    • pollen, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>
                    • microscopic fungi, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>
                    • insect fragments, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>
                    • pollutants,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>
                    • fur, hair, dead cells,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>
                    • volcanic debris,<\/span><\/li>
                    • fire debris,<\/li>
                    • sand,<\/span><\/li>
                    • salt,<\/li>
                    • microbes,<\/li>
                    • and even a tiny amount of meteor dust ...<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
