These fibers are a source of energy for the horse.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0caa665 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0caa665\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Cellulose concept<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-79fa47a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"79fa47a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div>In botany we learn that cellulose is a carbohydrate made up of a linear chain of D-glucose molecules (between 15 and 15,000) - (Wiki).<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5663 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/permaculture-equine.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/cellulose-chains-from-plant-cell-walls-Adapted-from-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-srcset=\"\" \/><\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"bi6gxh9e\"><span class=\"d2edcug0 hpfvmrgz qv66sw1b c1et5uql lr9zc1uh jq4qci2q a3bd9o3v knj5qynh oo9gr5id\">When we want to use the INRA tables to establish the ration of a horse, we approach the notion of \"crude fiber\":<\/span><span class=\"d2edcug0 hpfvmrgz qv66sw1b c1et5uql lr9zc1uh jq4qci2q a3bd9o3v knj5qynh oo9gr5id\">it is \"the insoluble residue of acid hydrolysis followed by basic hydrolysis. It contains true cellulose and insoluble lignin \u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/div><div class=\"bi6gxh9e\"><span class=\"d2edcug0 hpfvmrgz qv66sw1b c1et5uql lr9zc1uh jq4qci2q a3bd9o3v knj5qynh oo9gr5id\">It is expressed as a percentage (either crude or dry matter)<\/span><\/div><div class=\"bi6gxh9e\">\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"bi6gxh9e\"><span class=\"d2edcug0 hpfvmrgz qv66sw1b c1et5uql lr9zc1uh jq4qci2q a3bd9o3v knj5qynh oo9gr5id\">Except that \u2026\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"d2edcug0 hpfvmrgz qv66sw1b c1et5uql lr9zc1uh jq4qci2q a3bd9o3v knj5qynh oo9gr5id\">crude fiber corresponds only to the \"walls\" of the feed or fodder that we are going to give to the horse.<\/span><\/div><div class=\"bi6gxh9e\"><span class=\"d2edcug0 hpfvmrgz qv66sw1b c1et5uql lr9zc1uh jq4qci2q a3bd9o3v knj5qynh oo9gr5id\">But what is more:<\/span><\/div><ul><li class=\"bi6gxh9e\"><span class=\"d2edcug0 hpfvmrgz qv66sw1b c1et5uql lr9zc1uh jq4qci2q a3bd9o3v knj5qynh oo9gr5id\">on the one hand, the plant wall content is underestimated,<\/span><\/li><li class=\"bi6gxh9e\"><span class=\"d2edcug0 hpfvmrgz qv66sw1b c1et5uql lr9zc1uh jq4qci2q a3bd9o3v knj5qynh oo9gr5id\">and on the other hand there is no distinction between the different fibers.<br \/><\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bc9c14a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"bc9c14a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Two main categories of fibers<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-502da5b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"502da5b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol><li dir=\"auto\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Soluble fibers<\/strong><\/span> : mainly the non-woody parts of a plant (including: sap, resin, pectin, gums),<\/li><li dir=\"auto\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Insoluble fiber<\/strong><\/span> : mainly structural components (lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose).\u00a0<\/li><\/ol><div dir=\"auto\">Note: Lignin is resistant to bacterial fermentation, but plays an important role in maintaining normal gastrointestinal motility and function.<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6265aca elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6265aca\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Bacterial digestion of fibers in our horses<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b2b6e81 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b2b6e81\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Bacterial fermentation of the fiber results in the production of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) and lactic acid.<\/p><ul><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>AGV<\/strong><\/span> : energy easily absorbed in the blood and used directly, or stored in the form of glucose or fat.\u00a0<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> Lactic acid<\/strong><\/span> : also used to synthesize and store glucose.<\/li><\/ul><p>Bacterial fermentation allows slow energy production which smooths the concentration of glucose in the blood.<\/p><p>This fermentation also allows the interesting production of B vitamins (including biotin, folate, and vitamins B12 and B6).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ba2e2dd elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ba2e2dd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The importance of the microbiota<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1c1939b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1c1939b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The good health of the bacteria responsible for fermentation in the hindgut is essential. Any imbalance can lead to digestive problems.<\/p><p>Any change in the diet can disrupt the microbial population.<\/p><p>The consumption of cereals (and in particular barley) will produce an overload of starch in the hindgut: this leads to an excessive production of lactic acid and VFAs. These acids change the environment with what is called acidosis.
