color: #000000;\">The opposition reflex is a self-defense behavior of the horse that naturally opposes pressure.<\/span><\/p><p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The pressure exerted on a horse is when you push (with or without contact) on one of its body areas (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/httpspermacultureequine.fr\/permalink\/1308720532860619\">you can see an illustration in our FB Group here<\/a><\/strong>). <\/span><\/p><p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">We must take the time to visualize what this point of contact can be : thus,<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">when you pull on the halter, it is the headrest that pushes on the back of the neck,<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">It is the finesse of our relationship with our horse that is the first indicator ... <\/span><\/p><p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Here are some very common instances of horse self-defense behavior : it's up to you to find out where you stand with yours.<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">difficulties in boarding the van,<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">horse who pulls back<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">keep pulling the tether to get him to come, or\u00a0<\/span>the reins to slow him down,<\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">if he just won't let us pass without moving, <\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">when he does not give his foot or takes it back before the end of the treatment ...<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">In short : as soon as it is necessary <strong>pull or push<\/strong> to obtain (or not) a response or an intention to respond to a request.<\/span><\/p><p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;
